Our Story
Formed to serve one area of law, thoroughly
Selwynford was established in Kuala Lumpur with a deliberate focus: to practise in probate and succession only. The founders recognised that these matters — the orderly transfer of a person's affairs after death, or the careful planning of how that transfer should occur — deserve the full attention of a practice, not a fraction of it.
The name reflects a commitment to considered, structured work. We are not a high-volume firm. Each client engagement receives the time it requires, and advice is never issued without being properly prepared.
Our office is in Menara Atlan on Jalan Ampang, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's professional district. Appointments may be made at the office or, where circumstances require, by other arrangement.
Mission & Values
How we approach each matter
Clarity in writing
Every piece of advice is confirmed in writing. Clients are not left to rely on memory or interpretation of what was said in a meeting.
Patience in explanation
We take the time to explain what the law requires and what the process involves. We do not assume prior knowledge.
Honesty about limitations
We advise on what we know. Where areas are developing — particularly in digital asset law — we say so plainly, and discuss the implications with clients.
Transparent pricing
Fees are agreed before a matter begins. There are no additions without prior discussion and agreement.

About Our Practice
Probate and succession law in Malaysia: what a specialist practice offers
Estate administration in Malaysia is governed by the Probate and Administration Act 1959, the Distribution Act 1958, the Small Estates (Distribution) Act 1955, and for estates involving company shares or other regulated assets, additional statutory provisions. The correct process depends on whether a will exists, the nature and location of assets, and the religious background of the deceased in certain cases.
A practice that works exclusively within this area develops a depth of knowledge that general practice does not. At Selwynford, we understand the procedural requirements of the High Court and Registrar for grant applications, the documentation required to administer property registered under the National Land Code, and the particular considerations that arise when estates include financial accounts, unit trusts, EPF nominations, or digital assets.
Our office on Jalan Ampang serves clients across the Klang Valley and, by arrangement, those elsewhere in Peninsular Malaysia whose matters can be handled substantially by correspondence. We work in English, and our written advices are prepared to a standard that clients can read, keep, and refer to.
